The talk will be presented by Dr. Vladimir Blasko who has over 40-year experience in research, development and design of electrical machines, drives and power electronics and associated applied control theory and technology. Before joining Sikorsky, he was a Senior Fellow and Power Electronics group leader at United Technologies Research Center (UTRC), principal engineer and technical fellow at Otis Elevator Co and principal engineer at Rockwell Automation Allen Bradley. He was a post doc and is adjunct professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering with University of Wisconsin - Madison. He is IEEE life fellow and holds BSc, MSc and PhD from University of Zagreb, Croatia. The supervisor of the Substation Automation division at Eversource Energy in Connecticut, Michael Lopes, will give a talk about the work environment and career opportunities. Michael Lopes has eleven years of experience working within the Field Communications Department. Michael specializes in Supervisory Controls and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems and numerous communication systems. Michael supervises a team of engineers and technicians that perform maintenance, training, and upgrades for the Eversource SCADA system and its associated communication hardware and software. Michael’s team works in the dynamic field of rapidly improving technology with Substation communication upgrades, Wind and Solar Distributive Generation, Volt and Var Optimization Systems, PV Solar Battery Sites, and various other systems being added to the Eversource Power Grid.
